Feedback & Suggestions: Read Before Posting

Velo is built in the open and shaped by the people who use it. This forum is where you tell us what's broken, what's missing, and what would make the place better. To keep the signal high, here's how it works.

Before you post

Search first. Use the search bar up top. Duplicates get merged or locked. If your idea already exists, reply there instead; an active thread beats five dead ones.
One idea per thread. A thread titled "5 suggestions" can't be tracked, voted on, or marked done. Split them.
Check the feature flags. Some things you "miss" may simply be switched off on this board (shoutbox, reputation, credits, polls...). Ask before requesting something that already exists.

Writing a good suggestion

A good suggestion explains the problem, not just the solution. "Add X" is a wish. "I keep losing drafts when my session expires, could composing survive a re-login?" is something we can act on.

Use this template. Paste it into a new thread and fill it in:

What's the problem?
One or two sentences. What were you trying to do when it bit you?

Proposed solution
What you'd like to happen. Rough is fine.

Where it applies
Threads / posts / messages / shoutbox / profile / admin. Be specific.

Anything else
Screenshots (), links to threads where it came up, how other forums solve it.

Reporting bugs

Bugs belong here too. Same rules, plus:

• Say what you did, what you expected, what actually happened.
• Include your browser and whether JavaScript was on or off. Every page here is supposed to work without it, so "broken with JS disabled" is a real bug. Tell us.
• Wrap any error text in

tags.
Security issues are the exception: never post exploits publicly. Send a private message to a staff member instead, and you'll be credited once it's fixed.

Voting and discussion

• Use the like button on the opening post to support an idea. Posts that just say "+1" or "bump" get removed. Likes are the +1.
• Disagreement is welcome, pile-ons aren't. Attack the idea, not the member.
• Staff replies tag threads as they progress: Accepted, Under review, Declined, Duplicate. Declined isn't an insult. It usually means "not now" or "conflicts with where Velo is going," and the reply will say why.

What gets ignored or removed

• Vague one-liners ("make the forum better", "add more features")
• Demands, ultimatums, or reposting a declined idea every week
• Suggestions that boil down to "give my account special treatment"

SpoilerThreads that ignore these guidelines get one friendly pointer back to this post. After that, they're closed without further comment.

The best ideas on this forum so far came from members describing a small, concrete annoyance. You don't need a grand vision. You need a clear paragraph.

Thanks for helping build this place.
